To explain, Barry did a one-line, manual, de-minimus SMTP session using
/bin/nc to the SMTP port (25/tcp) on host golug.org, and measured how
long the session (SMTP conversation) took.  The answer was that sending
golug.org's SMTP listener two commands (the opening greeting command, and
a QUIT command) and receiving the host's responses took 20.355 seconds of
elapsed time -- which is indeed extremely long.
