All,

Now that at least a decade and a half-plus from *even* Eric Raymond's notes on the topic.

Is it time to re-think the points mentioned in both sides of the quest of a less "suckiness" O/S on the hardware used
today.

No OpenSolaris option in sight but the BSD's are still sticking around ... sound still can be hit or miss on any operating system
because of more ways that a sound card device can be added to the hardware.

Is it time for another handbook (or rebuttal notes or dedicated forum) to reflex the state of affairs of the year 2025.

Although ... the notes/comments from the past did not predict the amount of online tutorials available today.
