I was always keen on fusion energy, but had my hopes dashed quite
convincingly by the argument that any advancements that help enable
fusion (i.e. superconducting materials at room temperature) will *also*
enable every other form of electrical generation (save photo voltaic in
this case) perform better.

At which point, "invest $20 billion now and in 10 oops 20 years,
start to sell electricity to the grid" is a non-starter vs "invest only
$20 million now and start selling electricity in 2 years" with wind
turbines which now use superconducting materials.

On a positive note, there's lots of fusion generated electricity
available now and more on the horizon, it's just that we've outsourced
the power plant by about 90,000,000 miles for safety reasons.
