It is possible this article was written mostly by an AI. 😉

The trad priest (to whom I alluded in a previous mail) had some
insight. He said in previous ages the goal of technological
innovation was to make work more productive. Nowadays however, the
goal is usually to eliminate work. The problem with eliminating work
is that idle hands tend to look for things to do.

You and I view AI tools as a means to an end: to learn and develop our
craft in faster and more productive ways than we could in years past.
AI tools are not perfect. Their outputs require verification, but AI
tools are a step up from what we had before. That’s technological
innovation.

Unfortunately, the author seems to think the goal of AI is to
eliminate work. The author complains about AI code output throwing
errors, because that means work must be done to troubleshoot and
learn. This skewed lens is also why so many in the mass media are
worried about AI taking away jobs. If you eliminate work, then you
will need fewer people to work. If you make work more productive,
then you enable people to work on more things, and possibly specialize
in their areas of work.
