>And congratulations on beating leukemia! That’s no small feat.

:-) I didn't beat leukemia. It's a siege, and so far the fortress is
still standing. It's a fatal disease that can often be managed as a
chronic condition, at least for a while. I think the word is
"remission". If I'd been 40 years younger and had excellent insurance
and there was a compatible bone marrow donor, I could have *permanently
beaten* leukemia by having them destroy all my bone marrow and install
the marrow transplant. But such a procedure will most likely kill a 76
year old, so I wasn't a candidate.

As it was, the chemo wiped out my immune system, I got pneumonia, got
put on a ventilator for 4 days, and was so weak I couldn't stand (2.5
weeks ago). Don't feel bad for me though, today I walked 3500 steps and
swam about 150 feet (which really wiped me out :-).

I begin my next round of chemo in a week, but they say it won't be as
bad because I have almost no cancer cells left right now. 90% of my
bone marrow was cancerous the first time.
