Did you cursory research on the contents of that directory to see if 
there was a particular culprit or if any files could be valuable?

I would, for example, want to know when the most recent files were 
created or used, then look at the oldest, and lastly figure out what 
program uses the top 10 of those two lists.

Perhaps every wine-empowered program will itself use that main directory 
for its own temporary files.  That's so weird.
