fairemail seems to. I guess it just checks and auto subscribes often or on pull down. Thunderbird you seem to have to either restart thunderbird or go to subscribed folders and refresh and check the folders box

If refresh autosubscribed like Thunderbird startup seems to then that would be great. Perhaps it is thought to be more performant or something not to.

opensmtpd supports maildir and creates folders. dovecot serves them over Imap.
