I had somewhat ignored Ada, primarily because when I first started
hearing about it was closely associated with embedded systems and it was
a while before I had a compiler I could use.
I had ignored Common Lisp for similar reasons. My change of attitude
about Common Lisp was when Paul Graham wrote about it, and I discovered
several compilers I could use.
Now your mentioning Ada has me thinking about it again, at a time where
a compiler is available. It seems to be a very traditional modular
language, but the addition of generics seems interesting.
I still have questions about it support of small footprint, fast,
command line programs, and graphical ones. The GtkAda interface seems
to be very well done, but unfortunately the transition of Gtk3 -> Gtk4
seems on hold. Their analysis is a lot like mine. Like every other
group, Ada users are reconsidering what options they have to avoid this
lack of stability in Gtk development. I also would like a choice, but
KDE seems even worse in regard to multi-language development, and the
other Linux choices lack the usage or completeness required for relying
on them.
