The fix is to develop Wayland.
The process has been fraught with silliness and there's always the
chicken and egg problem of:
* no one is using it
* so work isn't being done on it
* no one is testing it
It's meant to allow for features like mixed-DPI monitors so person with
low res laptop plugged into 4K monitor gets each monitor at its natural
display resolution without one having everything scaled up, leading to
fuzziness or over-sized icons.
X11 cannot do this, it sees all monitors as essentially one large display.
Also, apps cannot see the input to other apps.
There are other issues they're aiming to resolve, but I'm not really
familiar with all the problems they've encountered / generated.
From what I hear though, it's working for most people using it in most
cases.
And distros are pushing it hard to get people testing it so they can
complete the missing features.
I'm using X11 still but accidentally booted into Wayland and didn't even
realize it for quite some time. I think screen-sharing in Nextcloud /
Jitsi was an issue so I looked into it and just switched back to X11.
